Infrastructure Works on Three Railway Lines During the All Saints’ Holiday Period
From Saturday 31 October to Sunday 8 November 2026, the CFL will carry out infrastructure works on the Northern Line, the Arlon Line, and the lines serving Athus and Longwy. In addition to routine maintenance and renewal works, preparatory works for the future Hollerich mobility hub will be undertaken. Further works are also scheduled as part of the ongoing transformation of the former PN13 level crossing in Dommeldange.In keeping with its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety across the rail network while minimising disruption to normal services, the CFL schedules infrastructure works requiring the complete suspension of train services primarily during school holidays and at weekends.
As with every major engineering programme, the CFL will provide an extensive replacement bus service to ensure customers continue to have a reliable travel alternative throughout the works.
Customers are advised to consult the journey planner on cfl.lu or via the CFL go and mobiliteit.lu apps for details of their individual journeys. Due to possible road traffic delays, passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey.
Between Luxembourg and Ettelbruck / Diekirch no train services will operate between Saturday 31 October and Sunday 8 November 2026.
Replacement bus services will be provided as follows:
- L10 Bus – Limpertsberg (Boulevard Paul Eyschen) – Ettelbruck
- Departures every 30 minutes.
- Easily accessible via the tram network (Theater stop).
- Serves all stations between Luxembourg and Ettelbruck, as well as Diekirch.
- L11 Bus – Luxembourg (Rocade, Platform 6) – Ettelbruck (via Mersch)
- Departures every 30 minutes.
- During peak periods, passengers travelling to or from Ettelbruck are encouraged to use the L12 replacement service where possible.
- L12 Bus – Luxembourg (Rocade, Platform 6) – Ettelbruck (non-stop)
- Operates Monday to Friday during peak periods only.
- Departures every 10 to 15 minutes.
- L13 Bus – Kirchberg (Luxexpo Bus Station) – Ettelbruck (via Mersch)
- Operates Monday to Friday with departures every 30 minutes.
- Easily accessible via the tram network (Luxexpo stop).
The CFL will carry out a range of maintenance and renewal works along the Northern Line. These include vegetation clearance alongside the railway and adjacent rock faces to ensure the safe coexistence of railway operations and local flora. Additional activities include sleeper replacement, track tamping and overhead line maintenance to preserve the reliability of the route's power supply.
Since the permanent closure of the PN13 level crossing in June 2025, the site has been undergoing a major transformation. A new pedestrian and cycle underpass is due to open in spring 2027, reconnecting both sides of the locality. Following the installation of the underpass during the 2026 Pentecost holiday works, the CFL will undertake further works during the All Saints’ holiday period, including construction of new cable ducts for signalling and telecommunications infrastructure. As well as the creation of new access routes to ensure safe track access for CFL personnel and the installation of new fencing.
No train services will operate between Saturday 31 October and Sunday 8 November 2026 inclusive.
The following replacement bus services will be available:
- L70 Bus – Athus – Luxembourg Bus Station
- Departures every 30 minutes.
- Serves all intermediate stops between Athus and Luxembourg.
- L71 Bus – Longwy – Luxembourg Bus Station
- Departures every 30 minutes, in line with the usual train service frequency.
- Serves all intermediate stops between Longwy and Luxembourg.
The suspension of rail services on the aforementioned lines will allow the CFL to carry out preparatory works for the construction of the new mobility hub in Hollerich. These works will cover various infrastructure elements required during subsequent phases of the project, including the creation of access for construction vehicles, the installation of foundations for the overhead line equipment, and preparatory works to adapt the telecommunications and signalling networks in order to maintain train services throughout the works. The suspension of rail services will also allow for enhanced maintenance to be carried out on both tracks of the line towards Arlon.
As part of the transformation of the western approach to Luxembourg Station, which will optimise train movements to and from the west of the Grand Duchy, the CFL will also carry out preparatory works, including the installation of new foundations. Once completed, the redevelopment of this approach to the station will allow train movements on the Luxembourg–Kleinbettingen–Arlon and Luxembourg–Bascharage–Sanem–Rodange–Athus/Longwy lines to be fully separated from those on the new Luxembourg–Bettembourg line when entering and leaving Luxembourg Station from the west.
Continuing the programme to remove level crossings
The All Saints’ school holidays will also provide an opportunity to advance work relating to the PN7 level crossing near Leudelange. The suspension of rail services will provide the necessary conditions to move a concrete underpass into position beneath the railway tracks, which will first be removed over a length of 60 metres. Once the project is completed, this new underpass will restore the direct road connection between “Schléiwenhaff” and Merl, replacing the current diversion via “Bouillon”. As a reminder, the CFL removes an average of up to two level crossings each year, thereby contributing to the safety of its customers and road users.
Between Luxembourg and Bertrange-Strassen no train services will operate between Saturday 31 October and Sunday 8 November 2026 inclusive.
The following replacement service will be available:
- L50 Bus – Bertrange-Strassen – Luxembourg Bus Station
- Three departures per hour, coordinated with train arrivals and departures.
The suspension of rail services on the lines will allow the CFL to carry out preparatory works for the construction of the new mobility hub in Hollerich. These works will cover various infrastructure elements required during subsequent phases of the project, including the creation of access for construction vehicles, the installation of foundations for the overhead line equipment, and preparatory works to adapt the telecommunications and signalling networks in order to maintain train services throughout the works. The suspension of rail services will also allow for enhanced maintenance to be carried out on both tracks of the line towards Arlon.
