Day 1: Wasserbillig - Bernkastel-Kues (83km)

At Wasserbillig station, you have to choose which bank you want to follow the Moselle on. If you opt for the right bank, you must leave the underground passage of the station in the direction of the pontoon of the Esplanade to cross the river on board the "Sankta Maria 2" ferry to disembark at Oberbillig. If you go left, you cross the Moselle bridge to Wasserbilligerbrück, a nearby German border village. Turn right to reach the edge of the river and continue on the cycle path through the wide valley of the Upper-Moselle.

In Igel the idyllic landscape changes when you cross the railway bridge, you continue from Konz on the right bank to the city centre of Trier, Germany's oldest city. Return to the edge of the Moselle and continue towards Palzem, Ehrang, Quint and Schweich. The cycle path continues on the right bank towards the wine-growing town of Piesport. You drive through the wine villages of Trittenheim, Neumagen-Dhron to Bernkastel-Kues your final destination for today.

The famous Moselle town of Bernkastel-Kues offers plenty of attractions that would be worth an extended stay. The picturesque old town, full of history and culture, with one of the most beautiful half-timbered ensembles in Germany, invites you to explore.
