Free travel card

Low-income persons and applicants for international protection may travel free of charge.

Free travel is also granted to family members without their own income who live in the same household as the person receiving the benefit or supplement.

The ticket is a free travel card which can be requested from the CFL, AVL and TICE upon presentation of the "Demande en obtention d'une carte donnant droit au transport gratuit" (Request for a card giving access to free transport) form.

This document must be filled out and signed by the Office Social de l'Administration communale (Municipal administration Social Services Office) in the person's place of residence, the Fonds National de Solidarité (National Solidarity Fund) or the Office luxembourgeois de l'accueil et de l'intégration (Luxembourg Reception and Integration Agency).

The applicant must also present a recent picture (3 x 4cm).

The card is emitted free of charge.

Card validity

The "carte de libre-parcours" is valid on all 5 national public transport networks(AVL, CFL, RGTR, TICE, LUXTRAM). On trains, it is not valid to and from a border point. The card allows travel on "RegioZone" cross-border bus lines until their border points.

The free travel card is only valid if it is validated by a special label bearing the calendar year for which it is used. It is not valid from and to a frontier point.

In the year of validity it will not be replaced.

Once it has been issued for a calendar year, the free travel card can be validated for another calendar year upon presentation of a new form that has been filled out and signed.

It is only valid in combination of an official ID (ID card, passport, driving licence).

Class of use

The free travel card is only valid in 2nd class. It is not possible to upgrade to 1st class.
