Luxembourg station: reconstruction of the bridge (rue d’Alsace)

The project concerns the bridge situated at kilometer point 0.858 on the line between Luxembourg and Kleinbettingen, crossing the railway line on the Rue d’Alsace.

This new construction will connect the residential areas of Gasperich and Gare. It spans the tracks on the Luxembourg-Kleinbettingen and Pétange-Luxembourg lines on the west side of Luxembourg station.

The construction is a steel bow-string bridge of 119 m in length and approximately 20 m high. The works on site began in June 2010. In order to guarantee a traffic link on the current Rue d'Alsace axis during the works, the existing structure was shifted sideways in October 2010. After this, the new bridge was built. The entrance ramp on the Hollerich side was completely renewed at the end of August, beginning of September 2011. During this time, the bridge was out of service and traffic was diverted.

On 17th September 2011, the new bridge was opened to traffic and the old bridge demolished.
