Changes in CFL cargo Management

Sven Mertes takes over management of the commercial team from Marcel Theis, who replaces Marc Calmes as operational director.

In February, Marcel Theis was nominated Chief Operating Officer, a post formerly held by Marc Calmes who henceforth manages new infrastructure projects. Sven Mertes was nominated new Chief Commercial Officer.

Marcel Theis joined CFL cargo in September 2009 as Head of Supply Chain Management and late 2010, he became Chief Commercial Officer responsible for Sales and Logistics. In this role, he restructured, implemented and stabilised the internal organisation of the Sales department as well as the interfaces with Logistics, to prepare CFL cargo for the challenges of internationalisation.

In his new role of Chief Operating Officer, Marcel Theis will mainly focus on the reorganisation and optimisation of Production and Logistics, with the aim to continue to position CFL cargo as safety-oriented and competitive company in the European market.

Sven Mertes joined CFL cargo in January 2011 as Business Development Manager, after more than 13 years of work experience mainly in Business Development, Project Management and Sales - three years in aviation and ten in an industrial setting. After successfully developing the Belgian and French markets for CFL cargo, he now takes over the position of Chief Commercial Officer to develop rail freight traffics all across Europe.
