From Bettembourg or from Lübeck the intermodal units can be forwarded seamlessly:
o by sea to Finnland, Norway, Sweden, Poland and Russia;
o by rail to Antwerp (B), Le Boulou (F)and Hendaye (F).
The transit time between Northern and Southern Europe will be radically shortened.
Examples : Lübeck – Le Boulou : 42 h
Helsinki – Le Boulou : 70 h
Le Boulou – Malmö : 56 h
The 650m long trains will carry 34 unaccompanied P400 semi-trailers, containers and/or swap bodies. CFL cargo will haul the trains in close cooperation with Nordic Rail Service, within the port of Lübeck. In Bettembourg, Terminaux Intermodaux de Bettembourg, a subsidiary of CFL multimodal, will handle the units, while Baltic Rail Gate will load and unload them in Lübeck. Pre- and post road haulage services will be provided by CFL multimodal.
CFL multimodal will manage and monitor the production and quality of services. Sales and customer service will be handled in close partnership with European Cargo Logistics, a subsidiary of Port of Lübeck. Bookings can be made via
or via CFL multimodal’s Customer Service.
The new Bettembourg-Lübeck connection will meet increased demand for intermodal transport units, especially for semi-trailers, on the European North-South transport axis. CFL multimodal aims to offer its customers effective and competitive solutions by expanding its network of international rail freight lines.
The new line will contribute to the transfer of road freight
transports to environment-friendly rail freight. In the short term, about 13 000 lorry journeys will be shifted annually from road to rail. The new service is supported by the EU Marco Polo program.
CFL multimodal is the logistics operator and combined transport operator of the Luxemburgish National Rail group (CFL) and offers freight forwarders and transport companies a wide range of services for national and international combined transport, which takes them to all major European economic areas in a quick and safe way.
CFL multimodal connects with its own trains the terminal of Bettembourg, located in the heart of Europe, to the ports of the Northern Sea, to the Spanish boarder in Le Boulou and in Hendaye, as well as to Italy. Containers, swap bodies and trailers are shifted onto trains in Bettembourg for their journey by rail, generally over long international distances, whilst collection and distribution of the loading units is made by CFL Multimodal by road. Furthermore, CFL Multimodal provides dedicated warehousing and related distribution operations.
